Organic Kalavryta Forest Honey

Harvested from our stationary apiaries, Organic Kalavryta Forest Honey is a product of exceptional nutritional value, sourced from the rich biodiversity of the Chelmos Mountain Range in the Peloponnese. By maintaining permanent apiary locations and eliminating the need for seasonal hive transportation, we significantly reduce the use of fossil fuels and minimize our environmental impact. This sustainable beekeeping approach allows us to produce a honey that not only reflects the purity of its natural surroundings but also our commitment to responsible stewardship of the environment.

HARVESTING LOCATION:

Chelmos Mountain Range, Mountainous Achaia, Peloponnese, Greece

On the slopes of Mount Chelmos, overlooking the valley of the Aroanios River, our two stationary apiaries are located at an altitude of approximately 700 meters. Harvested only once per year, this exceptional honey reflects the richness of its unique environment. Oak trees, fir forests, chestnut groves, along with dozens of wild shrubs and aromatic herbs flourishing within the protected Chelmos Natura 2000 area, provide the diverse nectar and honeydew sources that give this honey its distinctive character.

Early June to Late July

Ivy Honey is typically light-colored, ranging from ivory and pale yellow to light amber, with a bright and clear appearance.

Forest Honey from Kalavryta is characterized by its deep amber to almost black color. This intense coloration is the result of its naturally high concentration of minerals, including potassium, magnesium, and iron, as well as the valuable antioxidants gathered by the bees from the diverse forest ecosystem.

The defining characteristic of this honey is its intense woody aroma. It evokes the scent of a forest after rainfall, with refreshing notes of damp earth, woodland vegetation, and natural freshness.

Thanks to the low humidity of the mountain climate, this honey develops a remarkably dense and rich consistency, contributing to its full-bodied character and exceptional mouthfeel.

Although it remains liquid for an extended period, this honey may eventually crystallize after approximately 10–12 months. As this natural process occurs, its color gradually changes to lighter shades of brown or grey, while its quality and nutritional value remain unchanged.
